As the world’s busiest international
airport and the main gateway to Britain, Heathrow Airport is an important
part of the news scene and the core of Airtime’s operation.
With around 66 million passenger movements a year, over 80 airlines
and 180 destinations, it represents a significant source of television
news and Heathrow-based stories regularly appear on the national
bulletins.
The airport has two press conference rooms, three television feed
points and a permanent press corps with BAA accreditation.
Airtime has a base in Terminal 1, at the heart of the airport’s
central terminal area, equipped with broadband and editing facilities.
Despite its importance, Heathrow is a complex arena for newsgatherers,
because of its size and the increasingly significant security environment.
Airtime liaises closely with BAA, the airlines and the control authorities
on security issues and all staff have undertaken airside safety
training.
